West Ottawa Basketball Association will be continuing the Coach Apprentice Program this season that was introduced in 2022-2023.
This program is designed to help our players develop their leadership skills through an experience that will benefit the apprentice, the mentor and the basketball programs. The Coach Apprentice Program is open to all players aged 14 and older.
Participants will have the opportunity to work alongside the West Ottawa coaches of a competitive or recreational team that is two age groups younger than themselves (e.g., a U16 player could be an apprentice coach for a U12 team or younger). They will be provided with coaching clinics, opportunities to assist in coaching both practices and games and verbal and written feedback from the coaching staff they are supporting.
Coaching hours can also be used as volunteer hours to help meet high school graduation requirements.
