COACHING WITH WEST OTTAWA BASKETBALL
Welcome to the West Ottawa Basketball Association, where we are thrilled to kick off another exciting season of youth basketball. As a coach with our program, you play a vital role in helping our players develop not just their skills on the court, but also important life lessons like teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship. We appreciate the time and dedication you give to mentoring our athletes.
Our Director of Development, Mark Emond, is an invaluable resource for all of our coaches. With his years of experience coaching youth basketball, Mark has a wealth of knowledge to share. During the season, he is available to answer any questions you may have about practice plans, drills, or handling any issues with players or parents. Mark is passionate about developing our coaches to be the best they can be for our athletes.
We know that coaching takes commitment, but the reward of seeing your players' growth and hearing their excitement is priceless. Thank you again for volunteering your time this season. We look forward to achieving success on and off the court together!
COACHING PATHWAY - WEST OTTAWA COMPETITIVE COACHES
The intent of mandatory National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) certification is to ensure that all athletes are being instructed by coaches who are ethical, knowledgeable, and understand age and stage-appropriate training methods. All Ontario Basketball coaches are expected to be “trained” prior to entering a gymnasium and coaching athletes. While Ontario Basketball understands that the timing of clinics in various regions might not always allow for this, the expectation is that coaches will attend the required clinic(s) as soon as possible so that they can implement the techniques that they learn during their NCCP experience, thereby providing their athletes with the opportunity to get the most out of their training. After completing the in-person course, and thereby becoming “trained”, coaches must complete their evaluations and the Make Ethical Decisions online module through CAC (Coaches Association of Canada) to become a “certified coach”.
