West Ottawa’s Coach Apprentice Program (Ages 14+)
Build leadership and coaching skills while giving back to younger West Ottawa athletes—and earn volunteer hours. 
Who It’s For
Players aged 14 and older who want to develop as leaders, learn the basics of coaching, and make a positive impact in our community.
How It Works
- Team Placement: Apprentice with a competitive or recreational team that’s two age groups younger than you (e.g., a U16 player supports a U12 team or younger).
- On-Court Experience: Assist coaches at practices and games.
- Coach Development: Attend a coaching clinic and receive verbal and written feedback from the staff you support.
What You’ll Gain

- Volunteer hours applicable to high school graduation requirements

- Commitment to reliability, teamwork, and a positive role-model mindset

Yes—coaching hours can be used toward high school graduation requirements. Please track your hours and confirm your school’s process.
How are teams assigned?
We strive to place athletes with the age, gender, and level desired by apprentice coaches. Teams must be two age groups younger than the apprentice.
Do I need prior coaching experience?
No. By participating in our Coach Apprentice Clinic and through feedback from our coaching staff to support your growth.
