Goulbourn Hornets Major Atom Girls Win Gold At Blessed Sacrament Tournament!

It was a clean sweep for the Goulbourn Hornets Major Atom girls at Hamilton’s Blessed Sacrament tournament last month.
 
The Hornets won all five of their games, including its 34-22 victory for the gold medal over the Niagara Falls Raiders.
 
The Hornets opened the tournament with a hard-fought 38-30 victory over the South Simcoe Sonics. The game featured a number of lead changes, but the Hornets were able to sink some key baskets late in the game to seal the victory.
 
Goulbourn’s second game against the Stoney Creek Storm was a completely different story as the Hornets jumped out to a 12-0 run and never relinquished its lead on its way to a 40-20 victory.
 
The Hornets then went on to face the Raiders in round robin action and this was an exciting end-to-end game with both teams battling for every basket. In the final minutes the Hornets were able to widen the gap slightly and earned a 32-26 victory.
 
On the final day of action Goulbourn wrapped up the round robin portion of the tournament with a 56-44 victory over Toronto GTA West.
 
The Hornets undefeated record earned them a trip to the gold medal game where they once again tipped off against Niagara. A little more familiarity with the Raiders allowed the Hornets to dictate the pace of the game and come home with a gold medal in hand.
 
The Major Atom girls will be back in Toronto March 24-26 as they compete in the Ontario Basketball Provincial Championships.
