A Message From The GBA

2020-07-04

July 4, 2020

Good Day GBA Friends and Family!

I hope that everyone had a wonderful Canada Day and are managing these interesting times as well as can be expected.  I am emailing you today to offer an update as to the GBA's plans for returning to basketball.  We have been holding off on registration and running any spring/summer programming until we received direction from Public Health, the Ontario Government, Canada Basketball and the Ontario Basketball Association.
As you know, the provincial government has recently moved to Phase 2 of their reintegration plan based, in part, on the advice from Public Health experts. Likewise, the Ontario Basketball Association has advised its members that they too are moving to "Phase 2" of their Return to Play plan.  We are using the messaging from these two entities to help guide our approach to returning to basketball activities.  You can see the OBA's Return to Play plan by using this link:  OBA Return to Play
At our AGM, the executive agreed to begin putting together our plan for return to play for the GBA.  Part of our planning will include a discussion about when to open registration, what programs we might be able to offer and the timelines for returning to team practices and competition.  Of course, anything that we put together will need to be fluid as things can change quite quickly.  If you have any ideas you would like to share with regard to how the GBA will begin to move forward, please feel free to email them to me gbapresident613@gmail.com
While I am excited to work towards a return to play model for the GBA, I am also aware that we need to do so cautiously and follow the advice available to us from Public Health, the Ontario Government, the Ontario Basketball Association and Canada Basketball.  As we begin to plan, we will look at options that include 4 possible scenarios:
1. Regular start-up (not very likely now but we are prepared for it).
2. Tiered start-up with limited participation and gradually increasing towards direct competition.  3. Delayed start-up but with normal routines.
4. Delayed tiered start-up with limited participation and gradually increasing towards direct competition.
We will continue to keep you informed as we work out the details regarding the upcoming season.  Thank you all for your patience and we look forward to seeing everyone in a basketball setting (whatever that might look like) in the not too distant future!

Sincerely,

Dan Case
